WELCOME

The Malaysia Obstetrics & Gynaecology Complications Workshop (MOGCW) is a specialized and intensive training program designed to enhance the surgical skills and knowledge of obstetricians and gynecologists in dealing with complications that may arise during obstetric and gynecological surgeries. The workshop takes place over two days and is held at the Advanced Surgical Skills Centre (ASSC) located in Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

The workshop's primary goal is to empower participants with a comprehensive understanding of pelvic surgical anatomy and equip them with the necessary skills to prevent and manage complications that can occur during obstetric and gynecological surgeries. The workshop is structured to provide hands-on experience through a combination of clinical-based pelvic surgical anatomy, surgical skill labs, and live animal dissections and surgeries.

The originator of the workshop, Prof Dr. Mohd Hashim Omar, identified a need for improved comfort and competence among obstetricians and gynecologists in addressing injuries to various structures such as ureters, bladder, intestines, and major vascular structures. Prof Dr. Nur Azurah Abd Ghani took the lead in organizing the inaugural MOGCW in 2016.

The workshop is divided into two main parts:

  1. Part 1: Surgical Skills Development - Participants learn repair techniques using animal specimens of bowel, bladder, ureters, vessels, and vaginal structures.

  2. Part 2: Live Animal Surgery - Participants practice the repair techniques they've learned through live animal surgeries.

An online anatomy refresher course is provided to participants prior to the workshop to ensure a foundational understanding of relevant anatomical structures.

MOGCW is a non-profit initiative, and neither the conveners nor facilitators receive monetary compensation. The workshop fees cover expenses related to materials, facilities, equipment, and refreshments. Any surplus generated from the workshop's fees is reinvested into funding other training programs and educational activities within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
